Special glasses - Colorobbia Consulting

Special glasses come from the Gruppo Colorobbia, dbackground, always aimed at implementing solutions integrated with its core business addressed to the ceramics world and in general to the construction industry. The range of special glasses has been developed also for applications other than to building,  following the logic of business diversification.
Special glasses made of ZBS (ZrO2-SiO2-BaO) LAS (LiO2-Al2O3-SiO2), ZAS (ZnO- Al2O3-SiO2), NAS (Na2O-Al2O3-SiO2), KNAS (K2O-Na2O-Al2O3-SiO2) et al., have the here below summarized common properties:

• they can be easily formed as glasses: from these materials it is possible to obtain small size pieces (approx. 1 cm diameter) as well as large slabs of variable thickness (from mm to cm) and of different shapes, being workable like glass (for example, it can be blown, printed, roller-formed, etc…)
  

• any size can be obtained through a process alternative to the moulding, consisting in grinding, pressing and sintering.
  

• high mechanical properties: microindentation tests, related to scratch resistance, as well as bending tests, gave better results than those of traditional stoneware.
  

• high aesthetic characteristics: by using optimal thermal cycles to have good mechanical properties, white objects are obtained with a certain translucency and a smooth and uniform surface
  

• high chemical properties: acid-etch resistance tests (made according to the rules for the stoneware) gave excellent results both on pure glass and crystal glass.
  

Among the special glasses, the LAS-based product (LiO2-Al2O3-SiO2) has been industrialized and registered with the trademark Yalosker.
