Nanomaterials

CE.Ri.Col. has developed a range of innovative nanometric materials in stable suspensions form. The approach for the synthesis of nanoparticles is the so-called "bottom-up" process, i.e. synthesis of nanoparticles obtained by assembling atoms under controlled conditions in an aqueous or glycolic solvent, hence the brand name PARNASOS® (SUSpended NAnometric PARticles).

Oxides and metals are the PARNASOS® products currently available on industrial scale.

The properties of nanoparticles produced by
Ce.Ri.Col. range from photocatalytic properties, typical of semiconductor oxides such as titanium dioxide, to antibacterial properties of silver and zinc oxide, to the increased mechanical properties of zirconium oxide and silica.
These products were first applied to ceramics, a field in which
Gruppo Colorobbia has gained long-standing experience, then, thanks to the collaboration with industries of different sectors, also to glass, paper, stone materials, metals, by testing “in-field" the application process feasibility and thanks to research projects in team with other industries and with some Universities, which gave a further scientific collaboration to the achieved results.

The research laboratory has always paid close attention to specific requests in order to obtain a full compatibility of nanoparticles with different substrates; in this sense an extensive experience in functionalization with organic molecules of the products has been developed too, thus making
PARNASOS® products compatible also with organic materials such as plastics and resins.

The range of Parnasos nanomaterials includes also ferrofluids, hyperthermia promoters, mainly used in Nanomedicine research projects, where
CE.RI.Col. has been involved for years and which proved an excellent biocompatibility and a great response to the stimuli of the magnetic field  so as to be applied as a carrier in anti-tumour therapies. Ferrofluids can also be used in immune system cell engineering for which Parnasos products have proved the absence of toxicity and a good compatibility, thus opening the door to the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
